\nCoffee tables. Stair corners. Random stacks near the TVs.
\nIf you walk into any room, you\u2019ll find a book waiting for you.
\nSo people keep asking me:
\n\u201cWhat\u2019s your one favorite business book?\u201d
\nHonestly\u2026 I don\u2019t have one.
\nI\u2019ve read hundreds of books over the years, and many were instrumental in building my business and career.
\nBut I don\u2019t believe in having one \u201cfavorite\u201d book for life.
\nBecause I don\u2019t think books are favorites.
\nI think books are tools.
\nAnd the tool you need depends on the stage you\u2019re in.
\nA book that changes your life at 30 can feel irrelevant at 45.
\nNot because it\u2019s a bad book.
\nBecause you\u2019ve moved on.
\nLike childhood hobbies:
\nFirst it\u2019s hide and seek.
\nThen it\u2019s cricket.
\nThen it\u2019s cycling.
\nSame kid. Different season.
\nBooks work the same way.
\nIn fact, the wrong book at the wrong time can slow you down.
\nIf I had picked up \u201cbe happy and content\u201d books too early, I might have lost the fire I needed.
\nAnd if you read strategy books like Good to Great before your operations are solid, you\u2019ll end up with a vision you can\u2019t execute.
\nSo I read with one question:
\n\u201cWhat problem am I trying to solve right now?\u201d
\nOnce the lesson is learned, I move on.
\nNo loyalty required.
\nWhenever someone asks, \u201cWhat\u2019s your favorite book?\u201d
\nI ask back: \u201cWhat stage are you in right now?\u201d
\nBecause the right book depends on the season.
