No resume ever crossed my desk. She still became Infovision’s first employee.<\/p>\n
Early 2000s, New York. I was building my second company and needed help. A dear friend and coworker’s wife was at home. A few small jobs behind her, none that lasted. Curious. Willing to learn.<\/p>\n
I hired her anyway.<\/p>\n
She took the job seriously. Learned from scratch. Went on to set up our offshore center. Then client success. Then led the sales team. Things I never taught her.<\/p>\n
I sold Infovision 14 years ago.<\/p>\n
Fourteen years after my exit, she still works there. New owners. New systems. Same woman.<\/p>\n
Nobody gave her that advice. She just did it. But watching her turned into something I now tell people when they join:<\/p>\n
Don’t measure this job by the paycheck. Measure it by your learning curve.<\/p>\n
The paycheck grows with time almost automatically. But if your learning curve grows with it, you become someone no company can afford to lose.<\/p>\n
She proved it before I could put it into words.<\/p>\n
That is also why, when someone resigns, I ask one question: “What did you learn here?”<\/p>\n
If their knowledge upgraded, I count it as my achievement. Even though they are leaving.<\/p>\n
