A human arrives.<br \/>\nThey see an ad, or buy, or leave an email address you can use later.<\/p>\n<p>Machines do not see ads.<br \/>\nThey do not leave emails.<br \/>\nThey do not come back out of loyalty.<\/p>\n<p>Cloudflare&#8217;s CFO said it out loud on last week&#8217;s earnings call. Non-human traffic could reach 1,000 times human traffic within five years. His phrase: humans will be a rounding error.<\/p>\n<p>In 2002 I was a DBA at 1-800-FLOWERS.com, a giant of the dot com era.<\/p>\n<p>Peak season meant a war room. Valentine&#8217;s Day, Mother&#8217;s Day, rebuilding the forecast every ten minutes, thousands of orders a minute.<\/p>\n<p>Every signal we watched was a person. Hesitating. Comparing. Deciding.<\/p>\n<p>That is what the entire internet was built to read.<\/p>\n<p>Cloudflare&#8217;s CEO gave the sharpest example.<br \/>\nA person shopping for a camera checks five sites. An agent checks five thousand.<\/p>\n<p>So 4,999 businesses pay bandwidth, servers and security for a visitor who was never going to buy.<\/p>\n<p>Bots crossed half of all requests in May 2026. Cloudflare had forecast 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Attention is not the product anymore. Access is.<\/p>\n<p>Every ad dollar Google and Meta make depends on a human seeing something.
