I was 21 yrs old when I started my first business that too with an intention to earn phone expenses
It was in 2000.During those days calling India from US was very expensive,I use to spend above $700/month for india calls when my salary was $4k/month after taxes. Most of those calls to talk with my girl friend, love of my life and now my life partner
That expenses forced me find ways to make extra money, Thats when I found an opportunity,Directly buy calling cards in bulk from telecoms in wholesale and sell in retail to make profits
I started selling calling cards to friends and co-workers making few cents/card. In next three months I was earning my phone expenses
After 2 yrs I converted that business to Ecommerce site, started selling online. With lot of ups and downs eventually It became multi million dollars business/year before it was acquired.Rest is history.
Lesson Learned:
There is no such thing called small or big business every business starts at zero and gradually grows to become big.
Similarly every business has to go through ups and downs to reach a stable stage only patience and persistence wins in long run.
