The internet just stopped being a human business.

For thirty years the web ran on one trade.
Publish something free. A human arrives.
They see an ad, or buy, or leave an email address you can use later.

Machines do not see ads.
They do not leave emails.
They do not come back out of loyalty.

Cloudflare's CFO said it out loud on last week's earnings call. Non-human traffic could reach 1,000 times human traffic within five years. His phrase: humans will be a rounding error.

In 2002 I was a DBA at 1-800-FLOWERS.com, a giant of the dot com era.

Peak season meant a war room. Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, rebuilding the forecast every ten minutes, thousands of orders a minute.

Every signal we watched was a person. Hesitating. Comparing. Deciding.

That is what the entire internet was built to read.

Cloudflare's CEO gave the sharpest example.
A person shopping for a camera checks five sites. An agent checks five thousand.

So 4,999 businesses pay bandwidth, servers and security for a visitor who was never going to buy.

Bots crossed half of all requests in May 2026. Cloudflare had forecast 2027.

Attention is not the product anymore. Access is.

Every ad dollar Google and Meta make depends on a human seeing something. Traffic is about to grow a thousand times with nobody watching.

Does that end the ad model, or do they simply start selling to the agents instead?
