If you are looking for a job right now, one number deserves your attention.

Tech job postings grew about 13% this year.

Postings for one role grew more than 1,000%.

The role is called Forward Deployed Engineer, or FDE.

A company buys an AI product. The FDE goes inside that company, connects the AI to their old systems, writes the software, and stays until it works.

Median advertised salary: over $188,000. A regular software engineer: about $145,000. Lightcast data, reported by Fortune on September 3.

Now the part that matters for you.

Look at what companies are paying extra for. Not more code. A person who can code, understand a business, and work with the people inside it.

You do not need the FDE title to use this. Three small steps.

Pick one industry you already know. Insurance, retail, healthcare, banking. Your experience is an advantage.
Build one small AI solution for a real problem in that industry. Start to finish. Something that works, not a certificate.
Show it. When you apply, lead with what you built and the problem it solved.

One caution. One fast growing role will not fix the job market, and nobody switches careers overnight. It takes practice and an employer willing to give a chance.

But the direction is clear. Companies adopting AI need people who can make it work.
