Not his. Not any student's.
The textbook chose the problem.
The teacher explained it.
The exam will reward him for answering it.
His parents are investing their savings.
He is investing his teenage years.
For generations, solving difficult mathematics has been the mark of exceptional intelligence.
On September 8, OpenAI announced a proposed solution to the Navier-Stokes problem. Unresolved for roughly 90 years.
About 88 hours to produce it.
Another 17 for formal verification.
The claim deserves scrutiny. And those human ambitions are still worth pursuing.
It reminded me of a lesson business taught me the hard way.
You can get every answer right and still build the wrong business.
Hire excellent people.
Build a great product.
Deliver on time.
Then discover nobody needs it enough to pay.
The mistake happened before the work began.
Now think of that boy again.
Everyone asks him about his marks.
Has anyone asked what he would like to fix?
Next time a child shows you an answer, ask this.
"If you could pick any problem, which one would you pick?"
Fixing a problem is becoming easy.
Finding the problem worth fixing is the new moat.
That is what we need to teach the next generation.
